Thanks to all my biking friends to keep me motivated to succeed!!
I had lots on incentive to log the bike miles, climb the hills of Crater Lake and go bike camping. Eight friends and I trained to ride CENTURY - 100 miles - too.
Crater Lake
For several years now my aunt and I have talked about riding around the rim of Crater Lake on one of the car-free days. We actually committed this year by convincing 5 of our biking friends to join us. We had a BLAST and an awesome girls' weekend away. 33 Miles at 7,700' elevation with 3,800 of climbing!!
Bike Camping
The training for a century ride includes a LONG ride once a week for 10 weeks prior to the century. Four of us in the biking group decided to "hit two stones with one bike ride" - ride 60 miles each way and camp overnight. The ride to the campground was fun... We were excited, got lots of thumbs up from folks and the weather was perfect.

My daughter joined us at the campsite. Lucky too. It was VERY windy the next morning. We put most of our gear in her car so we could plow through the wind on the return trip. The wind was brutal. We were super excited to be home!!
Folding Bike Trip on the Rio Grande
I did take a "vacation" from training and joined my husband on a long weekend trip to New Mexico. I took the folding bike to ride for two days along the Rio Grande River. 20 miles north on Saturday and 20 miles south on Sunday. It was GREAT fun!! I love the folding bike and can't wait to take it on the next trip.
THE CENTURY RIDE
After the successful Lake Tahoe Ride in June my biking partners wanted to continue with biking adventures over the summer and fall. My cousin suggested and signed up for a century ride. We all decided to join, but we did wonder why several times during the training. The 100 mile route was fairly flat, so we figured as long as it was not windy we could manage. I am proud we all completed - with 3 flat tires. We now have bragging rights!! I am not completely sure I will do a century again anytime soon. I enjoy the 40 miles destination rides better. 😊 But never say never, right?
